Tircio Arturo DeVargas, aged 87, of Canjilon, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, in Santa Fe, NM. Born on October 22, 1938, in Canjilon, New Mexico, to Rosendo and Rosalia DeVargas, Tircio lived a life dedicated to service, love, and family.

Tircio was preceded in death by his beloved parents Rosendo and Rosalia DeVargas, his cherished sister, Eleanor Martinez, and his dear nephew, Isaac Martinez. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his surviving loved ones. Tircio is survived by his wife of 60 years, Inez of Canjilon; his stepdaughter Dene Gordon (Carl) of Kempner, TX; his son, Joseph DeVargas, and daughter, Lori DeVargas, both of Canjilon; his sister Louisa Martinez (Luis) of Medanales. His special nephew and nieces, Danny DeVargas (Agnes) of Farmington; Marissa Eiland (Paul) of Denver, CO; Ardy Leyba (Eugene) of Canjilon, also survive him. His absence will be deeply felt by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.

Tircio’s life was distinguished by his commitment to service. He dedicated 11 years to the Department of Motor Vehicles in Santa Fe. He then served as a bus driver for the Chama Valley School District for 17 years, ensuring the well-being and safety of the children under his care. His dedication to his community culminated in a 35-year career with the United States Postal Service, where he served as Postmaster for Canjilon until his retirement in 2006. His work ethic and commitment to his community were hallmarks of his life.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service for Mr. DeVargas will be held at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm. He will be cremated, and an interment service will take place at Canjilon Cemetery in Canjilon, NM, at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026.  A meal to follow interment at the Community Center in Canjilon. All who knew and loved Tircio are welcome to attend and honor his memory.

Tircio’s life was a testament to the bonds of family, the value of service, and the strength of community. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide all who were fortunate to know him. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this challenging time.
