Thelma Maria Lucero

d. February 6, 2023

Dixon

Thelma Lucero, age 90, a resident of Dixon, was welcomed into Heaven on February 6, 2023, when she passed away peacefully in her home with her family near her. Thelma was recently preceded in death by her husband Benito Lucero and grandson, Michael Lucero.

Thelma grew up in Dixon with her parents, Juan and Beronis Romero, and her siblings, Olivia Valdes, and Onesimo Romero. Thelma was a loving mother to Marie Lucero, Benny Lucero, and daughter-in-law Deb Lucero. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family and always enjoyed a good laugh. She was also a loving grandmother to Michael, Greg and wife Claudia, Ryan, Brennan, Landon, and Kaylyn and great grandmother to Janney, Oliver, and Lyonel. She also had a special place in her heart for dogs; especially her dog Mia who was also by her side during her passing.

While raising a family with Benito, Thelma became a Head Start teacher in Dixon. She then attended Highlands University to earn a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten for over 30 years with the Espanola Schools. Thelma went on to earn her master’s degree in Bilingual Education and thoroughly enjoyed teaching young students during their formative years.

Thelma enjoyed traveling, cleaning her yard, yard sales, and visiting family. Thelma was an active member of the Embudo Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Thelma recently indicated her satisfaction with her life, her many travels and the wonderful traveling experiences she had with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Embudo Presbyterian Church in Dixon at 11:00 am. Thelma will be lovingly delivered to her final resting place with Benito immediately afterward by pallbearers Greg Lucero, Ryan Lucero, Brennan Lucero, Landon Lucero, Raul Abeyta, and John Grant at the Dixon Presbyterian cemetery.
