Teresina Velarde

Teresina Velarde, a life-long resident of Chimayo and Ojo Sarco, NM, went to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by her family and staff at the Vista Hermosa Living Care facility on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Teresina (Tere) was a strong and loving woman who brought joy and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her.  

Teresina was preceded in death by her loving husband, Epifanio Velarde; children; sons, Raymond Velarde and Jamie Velarde; daughter, Romayne Velarde; Grandson, Johnny Ray Velarde;  parents,  Florentino DeAguero and Juanita Montoya; brothers, Elifar DeAguero, and  Oracio DeAguero;  Sisters, Gloria Trujillo, Anita Fernandez,  and Priscilla Padilla;  brothers-in-law,  Carmen Trujillo, Melcor Fernandez, Alfonso Padilla, Medardo Velarde, Nick Velarde, Fidencio Velarde, Elias Estevan Velarde, Arsenio Velarde, Enriquez Velarde , Antonio Velarde, Efren Velarde, Elizardo Velarde; sisters-in-law,  Cornelia DeAguero, Delfina Archuleta, Margarita Velarde, and Ester Sanchez.  

Teresina was a woman of great faith and the heart of her beautiful family.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Throughout all her days, she lived as a remarkable woman who loved her children and grandchildren more than life itself. She loved to spend time with her family and friends.  She was a loving, caring person and always willing to help and put others' needs before her own.  She spent over 40 years taking care of her daughter, Romayne who had a debilitating illness that needed special care.

Teresina and her husband Epifanio lived a life filled with love, happiness, and blessings until he was taken to be with our Lord.  

Teresina is survived by her children Daniel, Michael and Marvin (Florence); grandchildren Epifanio (Epi) Velarde, Johnathan Velarde, Rayannon Velarde, Matthew Velarde, Santiago Velarde and Patrick Velarde; sister Benilde DeAguero (Arturo Chavez), and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed and is now in the hands of the Lord and rejoicing with all her family who greeted her with open arms.  

A Rosary Service will be recited on April 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm and Memorial Mass will follow at 2:00 pm at the Holy Family Church in Chimayo, NM.  Burial will be celebrated at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on April 12, 2024, at 9:00 am.

Serving the family as pallbearers (grandchildren); Epifanio Velarde, Johnathan Velarde, Rayannon Velarde, Matthew Velarde, Santiago Velarde, and Patrick Velarde.  Honorary pallbearers, (grandchildren) ; Johnny Ray Velarde (in spirit) ,
