Sylvia Garcia

Sylvia M. Garcia, a life-long resident of Chamita, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022 surrounded by her family. As known by many, Sylvia was a very caring and loving woman, devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcomed anyone into her home. She was a supporting wife, mother, and grandmother, kind neighbor, and cared deeply for those she knew. She was known by the family, especially her nieces, and nephews as “Grandma Sylvia”.    When you entered her home, she welcomed you with a hug, a kiss, a warm meal, and coffee.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Eloy J. Garcia and son Eloy Garcia Jr; parents, Phil and Tillie Maestas of Hernandez; brother Antonio Maestas; father-in-law Jose Servando and mother-in-law Antonia Garcia of Chamita; brothers-in-law Joe Lopez, Solomon Jaramillo, Guadalupe Garcia, and Senon Martinez; sisters-in law Donelia Martinez and Tina Garcia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter Joyce Garcia y Balkey and Brian; loving grandchildren Serena Garcia, Joey Medina, and Bryce Balkey; great-granddaughter’s Aubrey and Emmalynn; brothers Leo (Lucille) Maestas and Leonard (Milka) Maestas; sisters Katie Lopez and Lucy Jaramillo; sister-in-law Julia Garcia, and many nieces, nephews, God-children, close relatives, neighbors, and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Joey Medina, Bryce and Brian Balkey, Joseph Lopez, Robert Gallegos, and Arturo Hererra.  Honorary pallbearers are Serena Garcia, great-granddaughter’s Aubrey and Emmalynn, Sylvia’s God-children, close relatives, friends and neighbors.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in San Juan Pueblo and burial will follow at the San Pedro Cemetery in Chamita.
