Susie Borrego

SUSIE H. BORREGO, 94, a longtime parishioner of La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada and a resident of Santa Cruz passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 due to complications of a sudden illness with her family at her side. She was born August 26, 1925 to the late Enrique Abelino and Vivianita Herrera of Chile, NM. Susie is preceded in death by her loving husband Ursulo Borrego; son, Andrew Borrego; brother, Abelino Herrera Jr.; nieces, Karen and Lori Herrera; sisters-in-law, Katie, Vivian, Pat Herrera; brothers and sisters in law, Gilbert (Becky) Borrego, Johnny (Emma), Joe (Ramona), Bobby, Jerry and Benny Borrego, Connie (Audelio), Annie (Ross), Juanita (Roman), Tony Fresquez, Isebelle Valencia (Juan). Susie enjoyed cooking for her family and was very passionate about spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish very many great memories of their grandma. Susie was married in 1948 to Ursulo Borrego, together they raised four children. Her primary role and greatest pleasure was caring for her home and family. She loved sharing stories of long ago. She had a remarkable memory. Susie was a woman of faith and a devout catholic. She lived, loved, and left the happiest memories, strongest beliefs of faith, kindness, and perseverance. Her spirit will always be implanted in our mind, and forever in our hearts. Susie is survived by one daughter, LaVerne and husband Donny Martinez; sons, David and wife Leslie Borrego and Patrick and wife  Debra Borrego; 10 grandchildren, Russell Martinez (Andrea), Janina Wood, Christina Martinez (Jerry), Diego Borrego (Yvonne), Juan Carlos (Julie), Avelina and Melia Borrego, Andres Borrego (Carm), Monica Huron (Bobby), and Elisa Esquibel (Kenneth); 14 great-grandchildren, Justin, Layla, Liam, Luke, Aliyah, DJ, Jeremiah, Josiah, Cristiano, Sareyah, Ezraniah, Andalyssa, Damian and Alexandria; four brothers, Lorenzo Herrera (Socorro), Gilbert, John and Joseph Herrera, sister, Amada Baros (Eloy); a very special niece Nancy Clow (Warner); brother in law, Leroy Borrego (Ciria), Lourdes Fresquez and many other nephews, nieces, and loved ones. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a Memorial mass to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
