Steve Max Roybal, a resident of Pojoaque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Angelina Roybal; grandparents, Abel and Eva Montoya, Ricardo and Martina Roybal; uncles and aunts Jose (Elustriano) and Ascencion (Sencionita) Roybal, Rubel, Manuelita and Baldina Roybal, Willy and Ubaldita (Ubi) Romero, Reynaldo and Leonardita (Nora) Roybal, Gilbert and Mary Montoya, Elizario (Juan) and Isabel Montoya.

Steve is survived by his beloved companion of 46 years Loretta Montoya her son Philip, daughter Renee, grandchildren Leon, Abriana; great-grandson, John; great-granddaughter, Noel; goddaughter, Esperanza; brothers, Richard, Gary and Cipriano (Leonard); sisters-in-law, Matilda, Carol and Donna;  nieces and nephews, Marissa, Raquel, Leonard Jr. and  Elizabeth (Liz), Nicolas (Nick), Melissa and Joseph, John and Cathleen, Carrie Ann, Mary Ellen and Richard, Angela and Ned; great-nieces and nephews, Leigh, Paul, Gabriel, Audry, Keith and family, Ariana and Austin, Lucas, Mariah and Eldon, Erin, Isiah, Ethen, Anika, Karin, Logan, Noah, Jonah, Mercedes, Jeremiah, Imani, Charles, Victoria, Thalia, Ava, Charity, Adela, Nicolas, Max; great-great-niece and nephew, Azalea and Damien.

Steve worked as a craftsman in the construction and repair industry, where he mastered a wide range of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry and equipment operating skills, as well as, being a chauffeured driver, driving firefighters to some of the hottest forest fire locations, throughout the State of New Mexico. 

He applied his varied skills in many areas, including horses and the horse racing industry where he also worked and traveled to racetracks throughout the State of New Mexico and California with his brother, which gave him a great appreciation of animals. He enjoyed, fishing with his friends, deer and elk hunting, cooking at campsites and home, also being with friends and family.

Steve was Kind hearted, hardworking, dedicated, sociable and always there for everyone.

Services will be held Thursday June 15, 2023, at the Nambe, NM, Sagrado Corazon de Jesus (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church, located in Nambe, NM, and is 2 miles East of Highway 84/285 on NM 503.  Rosary will be held at 9:00 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.

A reception will be held at the Arroyo Seco Knights of Columbus Hall for food and refreshment after the mass.
