It is with saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Steve Fred Quintana, 73, from Chimayo, NM. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 9, 1952, in Leadville, CO to Alfares Quintana and Juanita Quintana. 

A man of integrity, and warmth, Steve lived a full life marked by hard work, simple joys, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He was known for his steady presence and the deep relationships he built throughout his life. He found beauty in life’s simple pleasures and left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved to go hunting and fishing with his family. He worked as a U.S. Government Mine Worker in Mercury, NV before making his home in Chimayo, NM. 

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Steve F. Quintana Jr. and Billy R. Quintana, his parents, Alfares and Juanita Quintana, brothers, Edward Joseph Quintana, William James Quintana, Pablo Quintana, and Max Quintana, sisters, Lillian Quintana and Lorraine Pacheco, brother-inlaw, Juan (Birdie) Sandoval, and numerous in-laws. 

He is survived by his wife, Lupe Quintana, daughter, Mai Quintana, grandson, Casey Quintana, sisters Frances Sandoval from Phoenix, AZ, Sharon (Luis) Pacheco and Ivy (Mario) Romero from Las Vegas, NM, brother-in-law Joe Pacheco from Reno, NV, sister-in-law Christine Quintana from Albuquerque, NM, brother-in-law Ted (Erma) Martinez from Chimayo, NM, and sister-in-law Angie (Richard) Garcia from Chimayo, NM. He is also survived by numerous inlaws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and many close friends. 

Steve will be remembered for his strength, and the quiet kindness he offered the world. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
