Sofia - Age 96 - El Guache Lopez

SOFIA LOPEZ, 96, a resident of El Guache, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013 surrounded by her family as she entered into the arms of her Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emedardo Lopez; parents, Jose and Delfinia Lucero; sister, Cleofas Esquibel; grandsons, Leroy and Jimmy Lopez; granddaughter, Janelle Martinez and son-in-law, Mike D. Salazar. Sofia enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing blankets and cushions and picking piñon. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Mrs. Lopez is survived by her children, Horace Lopez and wife Carrie, Lico Lopez, Sylvia Martinez and husband Nestor, Lala Trujillo, Aurelia Fernandez and husband Juan and Delfinia Salazar; special niece, Shirley Montoya and husband Ned; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to begin at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Española with the following serving as pallbearers, Kenny Salazar, Gary Martinez, Ernie Trujillo, David Lopez, Eric Lopez and Nestor Martinez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren.
