Shirley Montoya, 61, a resident of Chili, went to be with the lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 due to a sudden illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Avelino and Aurelia Lopez; brother, J.R. Lopez and an infant sister; In-laws, Nestor and Veronica Montoya, brother-in-law, Nestor Montoya Jr., sister-in-law, Syria Rivas. Shirley was a wonderful person with a big heart. Her husband and her were always together and he never left her side. Her grandchildren were her world. She was a member of the Living Water Choir in San Juan. She was a wonderful cook and was known for doing her woody wood pecker. She enjoyed going to the casino. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Ned Montoya of Chili; daughter, Briana Velasquez and husband Michael and their children Davina, Nicole, and Dominic of Abiquiu, son, Ryan Barrera and wife Kayla and their children Aliyah and Yariah of Ohkay Owingeh; brother, Robert Lopez of Pueblo, CO and sister Rosie Lopez of Pueblo, CO; Padrinos, Willie and Mary Salazar of El Guache; Leslie Garcia whom she considered a second daughter; sister-in-law, Darlene and husband Danny of Cuarteles, Sarah, Mary, and Rebecca; special friends, Carol, Flora, Elaine and Beatrice and many other special friends nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren and other relatives. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a wake service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez.
