Samuel Alfred Bird, age 42, passed away on September 13, 2025, at his parents’ home in Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico. He was born on July 7, 1983, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley A. Bird, Sr.; his brother, Steven A. Bird; his grandmother, Josephine Cata; his uncles, Danny Bird and Eusabio “Sabie” Bird; his aunts, Minga Bird, Minnie Bird, and Debra Herrera; and his cousin, Regina Herrera.
Samuel is survived by his loving mother, Hwa O. Bird, and her partner, Gilbert Pacheco; his sister, Julie H. Bird-Williams, her husband, Jerome T. Williams, and their family; his brothers, Stanley A. Bird, Jr. and his partner, Monica Garcia, and their family, and Shaun A. Bird and his family; and his cherished nieces, Taliyah, Stevie, and Imani Bird. He is also survived by his Godparents, Marcelino and Bernadette Aguino; his Godsisters, Reanna Aguino, Marsha Aguino (with daughter Madison Daniels), and Samantha Aguino; along with numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, relatives and Ohkay Owingeh community members who embraces and supported our family during our time of loss.
Samuel embraced his creative gifts through dance and was known for his vibrant personality, which always stood out in any crowd. He will be remembered for his warmth, charisma, and ability to make lasting connections with those around him.
A Rosary was held on September 14, 2025, at his parents’ home in Ohkay Owingeh. A Catholic Mass followed on September 15, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with burial immediately after at the Ohkay Owingeh Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Aaron M. Losey, Barnabas “BJ” Bird, Cyrus Martinez, Santos Castillo, Allen Bird, Nathaniel Bird, John M. Bird, and John Nicholas Bird.
Samuel’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, creativity, and family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
