Samuel Teodoro Jose Griego

Samuel Griego (Sammy G), resident of Espanola, NM, passed away at the age of 44 on October 4, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Sammy was a highly creative individual. He demonstrated a gift for creative writing and earned a full ride scholarship to the College of Santa Fe, where he wrote poetry. Inspired by his uncles, Samuel also studied barbery and earned an associate’s.

Sammy was a very charismatic person and had an infectious laugh. He was always willing to do something fun; going to concerts, water parks, traveling, cruises, shopping, you name it and he was down. Sam was always the life of the party and secretly was a very talented karaoke singer. However, his favorite activities were fishing and camping. He was also an avid collector of rare coins and trading cards. He easily made meaningful relationships and built a family around him. He bestowed titles like brother and sister or aunt and uncle on the people he loved.

Above all, Sammy loved his children. He was an incredibly caring father. It was his highest priority to ensure all his children felt loved. Sammy was a fun dad and loved taking his kids on adventures.

He was preceded in death by his mother Gerladine Griego and father Joseph Romero; grandparents Lorraine Hernandez and Samuel Griego; grandparents Eloy and Annabelle Romero; uncles Ronnie Griego, Gilbert Romero, and aunts Roberta Contreras and Anna Romero.

Samuel leaves behind his daughter Samantha Griego and stepchildren Aishia Hita, Jenesis Jenkins, and Jayden Griego; sisters Rosalind Gallegos, Jazming & Vivian Hernandez, Emily Lucero, and Rachel Burden; aunt and maternal figure Frances Griego; aunt Cynthia Lyons; uncles Rudy and Hector Griego, and Patrick Romero; and chosen brother Johnathan Knight

He will be dearly missed by many family members, friends, and chosen family members. All of whom he greatly loved.

A memorial service will begin on October 25, 2025, at 10:30 am in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory with a burial to follow.
