SAMANTHA CECILIA FAYE LUCERO, 74, a resident of Española, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eula Cummings; sister, Charlotte Fair; brothers, Thomas Larry and Charles Ray Cummings; half-brother, Mervin Saunders; half-sisters, Marie Saunders and Leila Saunders Mannier. Samantha owned and operated American Janitorial Enterprises for 40 years. She also worked at the Bank of Santa Fe for 5 years and the Santa Fe National Bank for 3 years and also at the Lucero Country Store in Santa Cruz. She graduated from the Northern New Mexico College on May 9, 1997. Samantha obtained her black belt at the age of 70 in Tang Soo Do Korea. Mrs. Lucero is survived by her husband, Max J. Lucero of Española; children, Linda I. Gooch and husband Cary of Hugoton, KS, Marie E. Wuthnow of Hutchinson, KS, John M. Lucero and wife Jovan of Corrales, NM, Jeff Riley and wife Julie of Durango, CO, Melissa J. Montoya of Española; sisters, Carol L. Langley of Cumberland, WI and Ruby Saunders Zurowski of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Holly Grubbs, Jeremy Landis, Brian Gooch, Andrew, Allen, and Aaron Wuthnow, Kristen Trujillo, Chelsea Lovato, Jonathan, Jocelyn, and Jordan Lucero, Jordan Sandoval, Samantha Montoya, Amanda Lucero, Kyle Alex, and Isabella Riley ; great-grandchildren, Adrian and Avri Wuthnow, Tristyn Bechtold, Tobias, Clayton and Alivia Grubbs, Lily and Jeremy Landis, Peyton Martinez, Lauren Trujillo and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Allen Wuthnow, Aaron Wuthnow, Brian Gooch, Alex Riley, Robert Lopez and Tommy Maestas. Honorary pallbearers are Holly Grubbs, Amanda Lucero, Kristen Trujillo and Samantha Montoya. Memorials may be given to the Kansas Special Olympics or in care of the funeral home. The family of Samantha Cecilia Faye Lucero has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
