Ruben R. Salazar, a longtime resident of Santa Cruz, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ruben was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Salazar; his mother, Emiteria Herrera; his brother, Tony Salazar; and his sisters, Dolores Gonzalez and Geneva Salazar.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Salazar; his son, Ruben Salazar Jr.; his step-sons Manuel Cisneros and Marcos Cisneros; his daughter-in-law, Marisela Salazar; and his beloved grandson, Santiago Salazar; sisters Celsa Romero and Theresa Barros; brothers Carlos Salazar and Ray Salazar, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Ruben worked for the City of Espanola for many years, where he was known for his dedication and hard work. Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in caring for his plants and outdoor spaces. Above all, Ruben loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them. His kindness, strength, and love will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

A Public Viewing will take place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, at 5:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 pm. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Santa Cruz de la Canada Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Burial will take place at a later date.
