Ruben Lopez

Ruben Ernesto Lopez, age 72, a longtime resident of Espanola, formerly of Chamisal and born August 25, 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado went to his eternal rest January 8, 2022.

Ruben was a kind and gentle soul. He had a great sense of humor and never passed up an opportunity to tell a joke. And he loved cheeseburgers with fries!! Ruben liked to help out with chores or projects and loved riding his bike until he hurt himself in an accident. He liked being in the Adult Day Care at the RA County Senior Center, and was a dishwasher at the Center for a time. When the Center went to home delivery of meals, he was always happy to see Judy, Esther or Jose and loved taking pictures with them. Ruben was a very humble man who was always very respectful. He loved watching Western movies and shows on TV, and enjoyed old comedies as well.

Ruben loved his niece Vivian Abeyta Vega like a sister, and was also close to his ‘Rosina family’. He was under the care and guardianship of Rosina Martinez the last few years and became close with her children like brothers and sisters.

Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Urbano and Vivianita Martinez Lopez, his brother Bernabe Lopez, his sisters Fermila Salazar (Silios), Elanor Cordova (Estevan), Florida Abeyta (Charlie) and Angie Sisneros (Alfonso). He was followed very close in death by his caretaker and other mama, Rosina Martinez.

Ruben is survived by a very close niece, Vivian Abeyta Vega, many other nieces and nephews, his Rosina siblings Greg and Kathy Medina, Vickie Luviano, Dianne Barbosa (Fernando) and little Ezra, Eva and Remedy.

Ruben’s family would like to thank Rosina’s family for all they did for Ruben. May he rest in Peace.

Services for Ruben E. Lopez will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church in Espanola, with the Most Holy Rosary to begin at 11:30 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at noon and burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be two of his nephews, Rudy Abeyta and Chris Vega, Erica Castillo, Sean Garza and Isaac Rodriguez.
