Rubel A. Age - 83 Española Montoya

Rubel A. Montoya, 83, passed onto the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2011 after a short battle with cancer. Rubel attended and graduated in 1946, St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 4 years. He worked and retired from the City of Española. Rubel is proceded in death by his parents, Adolpho and Eliza Montoya; brothers: Lucas and Arturo Montoya; sisters: Margaret Caperton, Rose Olivas and Adelina Montano; step-sons: Robert and Julian Gallegos. Rubel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rosina Montoya; step-son, Michael Gallegos; step-daughter, Lourdes Salazar and husband William; sisters: Virginia Archuleta and husband Ruben and Lucy Roybal; sisters-in-law: Mary White and Isabel Vigil; brothers-in-law: John L. Gallegos, Joe and Linda Rothman; God-children: Anna Madrid, Jimmy Apodoca, Gerald Duran and Carlos Salazar; very special nieces, Patricia Lobato and Anita “Little Lou Lou” Montano; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española with interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with the following serving as pallbearers: Jerry Duran, Phillip Lobato, Ben Maestas, Bobby Olivas, Carlos Archuleta and Gilbert Montano; honorary pallbearers: William Salazar, Gilbert Delgado, Bill Caperton, Ruben Archuleta, Michael Roybal, Benny Montano, Rumaldo Borrego and Pete Madrid.
