Rosina Montoya, 97, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at Scott’s Community Hospice House. She was born on September 12, 1927.
After the passing of her husband Henry, Rosina worked for El Paraqua and Rancho de Chimayo for several years, where she discovered her passion for cooking and became known as the best cook ever. Rosina was a generous and caring woman, lovingly caring for many children throughout her life, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a young woman, Rosina loved to travel. She often visited her brother in Colorado and made frequent trips to California to see her sisters and extended family. She raised her children as a single mother for many years before marrying Rubel Montoya. Together Rosina and Rubel traveled across the United States, visiting friends and family. Rosina was a second-generation member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Altar Society and a devoted member of the Holy Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, where she maintained a 30-year commitment. Rosina and Rubel also belonged to the American Legion, where theyvolunteered for many years.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Rosina was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Gallegos and Rubel Montoya; her sons, Robert, Julian, and Michael Gallegos; her daughter-in-law, Denise; her brothers, Juan B. Gallegos, John L. Gallegos, and Joe Rothman; and her sisters, Josephine Rothman, Helen Valdez, and Isabelle Vigil.
She is survived by her daughter, Lourdes Salazar (William), who cared for her during the last few years of her life; her sister, Mary White; her eight grandchildren: Lynette Salazar, Javier Gallegos, Carlos Salazar (Cristina), Rosina Cohen (Josh), Maria Myers (Wesley), Consuelo Gallegos, Julian Gallegos, and Anthony Gallegos; nineteen great-grandchildren: Joaquin Garcia, Alicia and Roberto Gallegos, Carlitos, Filigonio, and Enrique Salazar, Layla and LeeAndra Tafoya, Abrianna and Joshua Cohen, Hailey and Wesley Myers, Esperanza, Sofia and Lorena Gallegos, Elianna, Julian, Gabriella, and Dominique Gallegos; and two great-great-grandchildren; Leilani and Jai Lucero. She is also survived by her Godchildren: Anna Madrid, Patricia Gallegos, Jimmy Apodaca, Gerald Duran, Carlos Salazar, Maria Myers, and Lorena Gallegos.
A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:30 am. Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm. with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Church and Sacred Heart Cemetery (908 W. Calle Rosario, Espanola, NM).
