Rosaura Mascarenas

Rosaura (Rose) Mascareñas 91, from Chamita NM passed away on December 22, 2022, surrounded by family.  Rose was born January 29, 1931, to Eduardo and Lousita Sanchez in Hernandez NM.
In 1950 Rose married Ernesto Mascareñas at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church. Rose and Ernesto went on to have six children. Elizabeth (Gary) Stidham, Veronica (Armando) Atencio, Ernesto (Deborah) Mascareñas, Michael (Jackie) Mascareñas, Catherine (Edward) Mascareñas, and Hope (Louis) Mascareñas.

Rose was a devout Catholic parishioner at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh NM her entire life. Currently Rose was a co-captain for Adoration since its inception and a member of the Holy Family. Rose loved to spend time with her family, talking on the phone, reading, gardening, walking and watching sports especially her Denver Broncos.

Rose was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Ernesto Mascareñas, granddaughter Pamela Mascareñas, parents Eduardo and Lousita Sanchez, brothers Eddie, Tony and Ben Sanchez, father and mother in-law Felix and Fedelina Mascareñas, brother in-laws Luis, Gilbert and Victor Mascareñas, Ted Martinez Sr. nephews Marvin Sanchez and Ted Martinez Jr., her Aunt Francis Lucero who she co-cared for until her passing, and other Sanchez/Herrera/ Mascareñas family.

Rose is survived by five daughters, Elizabeth, Veronica, Catherine, Hope and Jackie whom she loved like a daughter. Two sons, Erenesto and Michael. Six grandchildren: Carlos Mascareñas, Nicole (Adam) Atencio, Ellena Atencio, Anthony (Denice) Mascareñas, Michelle (John) Hightower and Gabriella (Jacob) Koster. Three great grandchildren: Madelynn and Kourtney Mascareñas and Lilly Koster. Beloved sister Carmen Martinez, sisters-in-law Bertha Sanchez, Mary Mainsville, and Elvira Manzanares, brothers-in-law Joe Mascareñas and Arthur Manzanares. Numerous family and friends.

A Rosary will be held on January 5, 2023, at 10:30 am at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh NM. Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Burial at San Pedro Cemetery in Chamita NM.

Pallbearers are Jacob Koster, Gabriel Lovato, Arthur Mascareñas, Carlos Mascareñas, Jacob Romero, and Danny Romero.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Josephine Borrego, Nora Lovato, Norman Mainsville, Ernie Maestas, Anthony Mascareñas, and Cornelio Sanchez
