Ronny “Ron” Curtis Snow died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He was 69 years old.
Loved ones that will miss Ron include his father and stepmother, Curtis and Edith Snow of Richland, Washington; his children, Spencer Snow and Stacy Baker of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Sarah Snow of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Noelle Snow, Zachary Hitchens, and Maddi Baker; his half-brother, Michael Casey of Vilonia, Arkansas; his half-sister, Candy Spain, of Athens, Alabama; and numerous extended family members, friends, and colleagues. Loved ones awaiting him include his mother, Myrtle “Marty” Casey; his sisters, Robin and Donna Snow; and his beloved wife, Marjorie “Peggy” Snow.
Ron was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on November 20, 1948, to Curtis Snow and Myrtle “Marty” Williams. He was raised in Richland, Washington. He served in the US Marines from December 1965 to December 1969, including one year and 24 days out of country during the Vietnam War. Years later, married his junior high sweetheart in 1979.
Ron worked as a Materials Science Technician for over 20 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory, developing two patents in his field. His coworkers described him as hard-working, insightful, creative, and a pleasure to know.
In adulthood, he fostered a love of reading, particularly Louis L'amour novels, biographies about Lewis and Clark, and other historical American fiction. Like the characters in his favorite books, Ron had more than a lifetime’s share of adventures. He lived as a biker, a cowboy, a trucker, a mountain man, a veteran, a spouse, a friend, a father, and a Papa Snow. His children will remember him as kind, sarcastic, goofy, mischievous, and supportive. While sometimes stubborn and private, he loved deeply and was always generous with those in need. No family gathering was complete without his frozen margaritas, which inspired many shenanigans and tall tales.
A celebration of life for friends and family will be held in Los Alamos, New Mexico on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Ron’s life. Condolences and requests for further details about his memorial can be sent to sarahgsnow79@gmail.com. The family would like to thank the staff at Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service for their kindness and support. The family of Ronny “Ron” Curtis Snow has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
