Rodolfo Augustine Abeyta, Jr., (June 12, 1953 - May 1, 2026) 6 weeks shy of being 73, passed away unexpectedly at Espanola Hospital. He was a life-long resident of San Pedro.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Rodolfo, Sr. and Antonia (Tonnie) Abeyta, and his in-laws, Orlando and Josephine Martinez, all of San Pedro. His maternal grandparents Victoriano and Albinita Quintana, Cuartelez, and paternal grandparents Jesus and Romana Abeyta, San Pedro.
He is survived by his wife, Yvette Martinez Abeyta; a daughter, Kristiana Abeyta Salazar (husband, Elias Salazar); a step-son, Joey Martinez; a sister, Amy Hightower; a sister-in-law Yvonne Archuleta (husband, Orlando); grandchildren, Estevan and Lucas Salazar, Zoey Martinez; and nephew, Steven Hightower.
Rudy dedicated over 30 years of his career as an engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing and hunting, having made several African safaris to hunt big game. He cherished time spent in nature and created many lasting memories with family and friends.
Rudy will be remembered for his love of family, his quiet strength, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on through the many people who loved him.
A Public Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 5:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm.
