Rita Munoz

Rita E. Muñoz, 87, a resident of Espanola, NM, born on March 3, 1936, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norberto and Aurora Martinez; siblings, Salomon (Pauline) Martinez, Estella (Ismael) Martinez, Lorenzo (Jenny) Martinez, Sarita (Alfonzo Cordova) Vega, Genaro (Celina) Martinez, Avenicio Fernandez, and Ernesto Apodaca; daughter Gloria Stuart and Great Granddaughter Elena Atencio.

Rita was very proud to be from Chimayo where she was a member of Holy Family Parish Church. She was very dedicated to her faith and her love for the Lord. She was a part of the beautiful choir and her voice was beautiful and unique. The moment she sang you knew it was her.

Rita worked at Zia Company for 15 years and loved her job as a custodian. After retiring she spent her time visiting her loved ones as often as she could, which she loved to do. Rita was a firecracker and a jokester with a sense of humor, just like her brothers.

Rita is survived by her children; Loyola Montoya, Lydia Apodaca, Carmella Lucero and Angela Medina; her siblings; Ernesto (Maria) Martinez and Oralia Fernandez; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola and will begin on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Parish Church. Burial will immediately follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Holy Family Parish Hall.

Serving the family as pallbearers and carrying Rita to her final resting place will be Noah Lucero, Adam Lucero, Daniel War, Floyd Atencio, Jacob Newman and Joey Fernandez.
