In Loving Memory of Rita Jane Aguino

September 6, 1957 – October 18, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Rita Jane Aguino, who passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a strong, loving, and generous woman who was truly the heart of her family. She could be stubborn at times, but that was part of what made Rita who she was. She knew what she wanted, knew what was best for her, and wasn’t afraid to stand her ground. Her strength, determination, kindness, and giving spirit touched the lives of those around her. Family meant everything to Rita, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by those she loved.

A cancer survivor, Rita faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage and determination. She was a fighter who never gave up, showing the same strength and stubborn spirit that defined her throughout her life. Even through her most difficult days, she continued to fight until the very end. Her resilience and strength will forever be an inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

One of Rita’s greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play sports. She loved cheering them on from the sidelines, celebrating their accomplishments, and being part of their special moments. She was their biggest supporter and took great pride in each of them. Whether it was a family gathering, a sporting event, or simply spending time together, Rita treasured every moment with her loved ones.

Rita also had a love for beading, a pastime that brought her happiness and allowed her to share her creativity. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved husband, her Johnnie Angel. Their love and companionship held a special place in her heart.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved son, Shawnti Aquino; her beloved daughter, Cynthia Aquino; and her loving mother, Madeline Cata.

She is survived by her loving husband, Johnnie Aguino; her daughters, Eunice Moya (Anthony) and Shellie Garcia (Corey); and her daughter-in-law, Iris Aquino. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, John Moya (Jaed), Taylor Moya, Jordan Weick (Burton), Shanaya Aquino, Alexis Aquino, Shawnti Aquino, Dominique Quintana, Erin Martinez, Caleb Martinez, Jacob Martinez, and Kayliani Garcia; and her precious great-grandchildren, Mya-Love Moya, River Moya, AmariAnn Martinez, and Aron Martinez. God children, Rose Cata, Michael Cata, Kyle Krantz, Dorea Garcia, and Isiah Cata.

Rita is also survived by her sisters, Charlene Dean (Charlie) and Gina Cata; her brothers, Lindsay Cata and Michael Cata; and her sisters-in-law, Mabel Cata, Janet Martinez, and Erma Bird, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Rita’s legacy will live on through the family she loved so deeply and the countless memories they shared. She taught those around her the meaning of strength, determination, generosity, and unconditional love. Though her passing leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, her family will forever carry her love, her strength, and her memory in their hearts.

The family of Rita Aguino has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley.  505-747-7477
