Richard (Rick) Montoya, 43, of El Llano, formerly of Chimayo, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
Rick is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Montoya, mother-in-law Odelia Duran; paternal grandparents Arsenio and Genoveva Montoya and maternal grandparents, Gregorio and Trinidad Vigil, and uncle Albert Montoya.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, of 19 years; children Shania (Twyla) and Elias (Blanca). He is also survived by his mother Linda (Alan) Aitken and favorite sister Kathy (Donald) Naranjo. Other surviving family members are his Uncle LeRoy Montoya, Aunts Marlene Montoya and Judy Garcia; padrinos Sef and Josephine Valencia, Father-in-law Ben Duran, goddaughter Sky Vigil, and in-laws Beverly (Lenny) Martinez, Carolyn (Peter) Lopez, Eddie (Monica) Duran, Janet Vigil, and Veronica (John) Griffith. He is also survived by many extended family members, including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rick loved to go hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors and his happy place was camping with his family and friends. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and also loved anything that had to do with Marvel movies. Rick was a dedicated family man and loved nothing more than he did his family. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many.
Rick worked for UPS for the last 6 years, where he was a valued employee and loved by both his co-workers and customers alike. Prior to working at UPS, Rick worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 16 years.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Honoring the family as Pallbearers are Jeff Clem, James Martinez, Adrian Vigil, Ian Maestas, Walter Martinez, Gilbert Martinez, Jose Palomares, Peter Lopez, Ramon Ortiz. Honorary Pallbearers are Elias Montoya, Shania Martinez, Twyla Sisneros, and his very best “grand-dog,” and best friend, Mya.
