Richard Anthony Martinez, born on July 13, 1939, in Espanola, NM, passed away on May 12, 2026. He was born to Anthony V. Martinez and Anita Salazar.
Richard dedicated over 50 years to teaching and coaching in the Espanola Valley, touching countless lives with his passion and commitment.
He is survived by his grandsons E'Lan Wooten and Eryn Wooten, son-in-law Kevin Wooten, sister-in-law Sister Stephanie McReynols O.S.F., nieces Pearl McReynolds, Kathy Griego (Eduardo Catanach), Shirley Martinez (Billy Larranaga), Stephanie McReynolds (Goddaughter), nephews TJ McReynolds (Maxine), Leslie McReynolds (Monica Cardenas), and nephews Rodolfo (Arlene) Baca, Carlos (Mandy) Baca, Joaquin (Mindy) Baca, Maria Carmen Vahtel (Will Crain), and Javier (Beth) Baca. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary and daughter Annabelle, sisters Viola Martinez and Evangeline Baca.
Services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Espanola. A Rosary will be recited at 9:0 AM, followed by a Catholic Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow.
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to education, his family, sports, and the community he loved.
Richard was a beloved teacher and coach who inspired generations of students and athletes. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
His coaching career was marked by numerous achievements and the positive impact he had on his players' lives. Richard's commitment to fostering teamwork and sportsmanship left a lasting legacy in the Espanola Valley community.
