Richard F. Valdez (Coon), 76, of Alcalde, New Mexico passed away, January 24, 2024 peaceful at home. By his side was his loving wife and kids.

He was married to the love of his life Ruby Valdez for over 58 years, but together since they were 11. He was retired from the Santa Fe County where he was a heavy equipment mechanic, focusing on diesels.  He had the biggest heart and always took advantage of being outdoors camping, hunting or going to drives to the mountains. His love for cooking was outstanding, especially his BBQ ribs. Always including his kids, grandsons, and great-grand kids to make new memories was always what he strived to do. Richard’s brother-in-law Reuben and sister-in-law Dorothy along with Ruby would reminisce about their memories till the day he passed.

Richard is proceeded in death by his parents Juan M. Valdez and Adelia D. Valdez, father-in-law Buck Guinn, mother-in-law Juanita Guinn, and brother Delano Valdez.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruby Valdez, Sons Billy and Frank Valdez, daughter Virginia Valdez, grandsons Bradley, Brandon, and Carlos (Josh) Abeyta, great-grandkids Dominic (BomBo), Psylis, Tyler, and Dev-Lynn, sisters Lydia Atencio, Mabel Valdez and Claudina (Andrew) Salazar, nephews Marvin (Patsy) Valdez, Norman (Pauline) Valdez, Randy (Liz) Guinn, nieces Donna Padilla, Yvonne Atencio, Charlene Guinn and Betsy Romero. Many, many other relatives and friends that adored him.

Services will be Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11:00am with a rosary starting at 11:30am in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be followed at the Alcalde Community Center. Burial will be held at a later time.
