Ramon Estrada, 91, a beloved father to Kenneth and Janette, and adored husband of Edulia, made his final peaceful journey home on August 2, 2025, while surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Zacarias Estrada and Antonia Martinez, his sister, Fidencia Lee, and his brothers, Florencio and Johnny Estrada. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Carlos, Tony, Randy, Kenni, Lexi, Kenneth Jr., and 5 great-grandchildren, Emri, Shaylin, Maximus, Bryson and Brody.
He was born and grew up in Cebolla, NM, with his older sister and two younger brothers. Left without parents at the age of 11, he took on the responsibility of caring for his family. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. (Korean War) He married his high school sweetheart, Edulia, and began his married life, which thrived for 70 years.
Mr. Estrada, as known by his community, was an educator for over 35 years most notably in the Chama Valley School District. He served in many capacities until he retired. Retirement, for him, was filled with activities that he actively pursued, writing, gardening, reading, crafting art using nature’s natural mediums and of course, wood splitting. His woodpile was his work of art, and he proudly displayed it to anyone who entered his home.
Ramon was very much an individual who valued his independence highly. He took pride in the fact that he was very capable of managing his life fully. His requests for his final stages of life were honored and that left him with peace knowing he was still calling the shots. His energy, love and wry sense of humor will be missed deeply by his family.
