RAMON SUAZO, 74, a resident of Abiquiu (Barranco), passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Suazo; parents, Valentin and Elena Suazo; sisters, Dora Suazo, Cordelia Atencio, Bennie Ferran and Mary Martinez. Ramon was born on March 4, 1937. He graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe. Upon his graduation he worked for the Forest Service and the Motor Vehicle Department before pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. Ramon served as Chama Marshall for numerous years before joining New Mexico State Police in 1969. He retired as Captain after 20 years. He was a member of the Abiquiu land Grant. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their extracurricular activities. Mr. Suazo is survived by his children, Suzanne Martinez and husband Edward and Steven Suazo and wife Andrea all of Abiquiu; grandchildren, Cody, Crystal and Danielle Martinez, Misty Marquez and Alyssa and Brittni Suazo; brother, Valentin Suazo and wife Anna Marie of Maryland; sister, Mercy Martinez of Medanales and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. A second rosary will be recited on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Burial to follow at Abiquiu Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Edward Martinez, Gilbert Ferran, Steven Suazo, Cody Martinez, Crystal Martinez and Suzanne Martinez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Alyssa, Misty, Danielle, Brittni, Valentin Suazo, Mercy Martinez and nieces and nephews. The family of Ramon Suazo has entrusted their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
