Petrita Sherman

Petrita Sherman, 93, resident of Embudo, New Mexico, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023. She was born on September 20, 1930, in Embudo, New Mexico to Petrita and Porfirio Trujillo.  

 Petrita is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Sherman, parents Petrita and Porfirio Trujillo, stepmother Amalia, grandmother (who raised her) Margarita Trujillo and brother Johnny Trujillo.  

 She is survived by her siblings Porfirio Trujillo, Lillian Cloonan, Pauline Pruitt, Marie Carraciola, Rudy Trujillo, and Gregorita Lara.  She was a loving mother to Kathy Lovato, Michael (Rose) Sherman, and David (Dolores) Sherman. An amazing grandmother to Daniel Lovato (whom she raised), Porfirio Lovato, Fernando (Darlene) Lovato, Cindy (Ted) Garcia, Marlene Lovato, and Michelle Sherman. She cherished being the great-grandmother to Ashlee (Joseph) Lopez, ShaunTae Quintana, Celayell Lovato, Breanna Lovato, Melanie Lovato, Amarissa Quintana, Lorenzo Trujillo and Dominic Lovato. And most certainly was proud to have a great-great grandson Joseph Lopez. “Five generations” she would say with such joy in her heart.   

 Petrita enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and baking for them. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and drinking coffee with friends. She taught her family to have faith in the Lord and will most certainly be missed.  

 Services for Petrita will be at the St. Anthony’s Church in Dixon, NM, on November 15, 2023, at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, at 1:30 PM.

Serving as Pallbearers: Porfirio Lovato, Fernando Lovato, Lorenzo Trujillo, Ted Garcia, Joseph Lopez, and Anthony Fresquez.
