Peter James Chavez, age 47, passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. Peter is at peace and no longer hurting.
Peter was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Chavez Sr., loving Aunt Joann DeAguero, and Maternal grandparents Alberto and Rosita DeHerrera. Paternal grandparents Hipolito and Griselda Chavez, Uncle Romolo DeHerrera, Madrina Marie DeHerrera, Uncles Raymond Wheeler Sr., and Genaro Rodriguez. Cousins Filbert DeAguero, Manuel Wheeler, Thomas and Anthony Rodriguez, Anthony Martinez, Mary Lou, Stephanie and Bonnie Padilla, Anjelika Baca, Juan Sanchez and Joey DeHerrera.
Peter was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was a gracious, loving, caring person. He was very adamant about seeking employment as a young boy. He served the communities of the City of Espanola, Ohkay Owingeh, and Tesuque as a Law Enforcement Officer. Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with his relatives. Many people knew him and had nothing but praise for him. He had the strength to endure hardships which is a perfect representation of his name meaning, 'Rock'. Some of those hardships were not so easy. His absence is going to affect many who loved him.
Peter is survived by his parents Paul and Linda Chavez, his Daughter Raelynn Chavez and Thomas Martinez, his granddaughter Aubree, Niece Miranda Chavez, and Khris Ancheta Nephews Patrick Chavez Jr., and Evander Ancheta, Padrino David DeHerrera, Uncles and Aunts Irene (Eddie)Vigil, Lydia Wheeler, Pete Roberta DeHerrera of Rio Rancho, Cordie and Adonaldo Herrera of New Castle, Colorado, June Galvan, Rosita DeHerrera, Arsenio DeAguero, Paula and Eric Chavez, and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
A rosary will take place on Tuesday June 11, 2024 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church with a mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00. A Burial will follow at the Santa Cruz Cemetery.
