Pedro “Pete” Martinez, 82, a resident of El Guique passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 after a short illness. He was in the United States Army, having served during WWII. He worked in Los Alamos for 35 years and was a member of the American Legion Post 0014 in Albuqueruqe. Pedro enjoyed working in his garden to the end; he was a farmer and hard worker, he instilled these values into his children. Pedro also known as “Pete Largo” was an avid baseball player. He was known in the Valley as a great pitcher. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather & good friend. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Martinez; grandson, Gilbert Martinez; parents, Nemesio and Esequela Martinez; in-laws, Emilio and Adela Gonzales. Pedro is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores Martinez of El Guique; children: Alex Martinez and wife Debbie of Albuquerque, Lucille Tilley and husband Ray of Rio Rancho, Charlene Fernandez and husband Enrique of El Rancho, Maxine Nevarez and husband Valentin of Chihuahua, Linda Cordova and husband Tony of Española, Floyd Martinez of Pojoaque, Dolores Salazar and husband Ervin of El Guache, Jimmy Martinez and wife Ruth of El Guique, Adela Trujillo of Arroyo Seco and Sandra Martinez of El Guique; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Ninfa Borrego and husband Ruben of Wyoming and Rosalie Lovato of Bernalillo; and numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to take place at a later date. At the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors. The following will be serving as pallbearers: Enrique Fernandez Jr., Maureen Vigil, Brian Martinez, Consuelo Trujillo, Anthony Rael, Alicia Richards, Leroy Martinez and Melissa Martinez.
