Pancracio "Panky" - Age 76 - Santa Rael

Pancracio “Panky” Rael – a resident of Santa Fe and recently of Ojo Caliente, NM completed his journey in this life on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Panky was born on December 28, 1933 in Santa Fe, NM to Crestino and Nellie Rael. He was preceded in death by his parents: Crestino and Nellie Rael; his brothers-in-law, Pete Pino; his nephews: Edward Pino, Robert Rael and Danny Rael; and niece, Kimberly Pino. Panky was a beloved and respected educator who valued education highly. He taught school at Santa Cruz High School and Española High School and at the Alternative School as well. He established life long relationships with his students and colleagues. Panky is survived by the love of his life, Viola Rael; three sisters: Edwina Regensberg and husband John, Suzie Pino of Lakewood, California and Prescilla Contreras and husband Leonard of Albuquerque; three brothers: Gil Rael of Albuquerque, Ben Padilla of Amarillo, Texas and Pat Padilla of Santa Fe; in-laws: Joe Sisneros and wife Margaret, Anastacio Sisneros and wife Eufelia, Rosina Baca and husband Gabe of Española, Genevieve Pignoni and husband Agustine of San Francisco, California. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Francis Cathedral Basilica in Santa Fe. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers will be all of his nephews: John Regensberg, Charles Montoya, Ric Rael, Gabriel Baca, Adam Baca and Michael Sisneros. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Parker Wells, Bobby Archuleta, Don Wilson, Louie Medrano, Anselmo Trujillo, Jerry Torrez, Eliseo Quintana, Robert Felix, Celestino Lucero, Michael Megarez, Manuel and Erlinda Quintana, Mark and Terry Sanchez, Eloy Roybal and Ross and Manuel Chavez and his beloved students from Santa Cruz and Española Schools. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Center of New Mexico.
