Pablo Montalvo

Pablo Montalvo was born in Uvalde, Tx, to Aurora Gonzales and Ralphel Montalvo, he passed away surrounded by family, and loved ones. He learned to work hard first as migrant worker, traveling to Wisconsin for the cherry-picking season, then back to Texas for the cantaloupe season, along with his mother and siblings. In Texas he learned to play guitar, serenading the ladies with a song. Pablo would travel to Sonora and Junction Texas where he would strut, his playing talents along with his voice. He lived in Texas until 1956 at 19 when he left to work at a factory called Inland Steel in East Chicago Indiana for 7 ½ years.

In 1963 he moved to Cordova New Mexico, started a relationship with Fedelina and eventually married on November 21, 1963. Pablo and Fedelina were inseparable up to the day he passed away; just short of their 63rd anniversary. Pablo attended TV repair school and learned how to repair televisions and opened a TV repair shop; in a two-car garage they bought from our grandfather. Turning the garage into a four-room home later adding the big kitchen and living room. He got a job working for a highway construction company, driving to Las Vegas NM and sleeping in his 56 Chevy Belair, trying to save money for three hungry growing boys. Pablo then got hired in the Los Alamos County Sanitation department, eventually retiring after 17-year career. Together they would go to the casino for entertainment; on the weekends, they would do family mountains outings. At other times they would travel to visit Pablos’s mother in Texas, or to Colorado and Florida to visit their eldest son Gustavo and family. In time, they would travel all around the state and even to Las Vegas Nevada for basketball tournaments to watch their grandchildren Nathan and Christopher Montalvo play basketball and soccer. Some of key scents were wood & gas with a hint of mouth wash; he loved to watch his hummingbirds every summer. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. He would always make sure to finish the majority of his gardening before watching his football games, news, telenovela or kids shows with grandchildren. His favorite drinks were coffee and Coca-Cola, but mostly coffee even on a hot summer’s day.

When the holidays came around, he watched Thanksgiving and Christmas specials with grandchildren. His daily schedule was waking up at 8am with his wife Fedelina and making breakfast, if the grandchildren were hungry; he would make more for them as well. He would always make sure his wife took her medication and vitamins. He loved babysitting his grandchildren, especially those sleepovers. He would do anything to help his grandchildren.

Pablo was preceded in death by his mother Aurora, and Raphel, sisters Aurorita, Janet, daughter’s in-law Meier Lugo and Maryrose Montalvo, grandchildren Christopher and Aiden. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Fedelina, sons Gustavo, Jerry (Geraldine), Robert Lugo, Michael Montalvo and Joel (Desiree), and sister Debbie Sundheim. He was a devoted grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.  Burial to follow at the Cordova Assemblies of God Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Mike Monatlvo, JD Montalvo, Nate Montavo, Christopher Montalvo-Ruiz, Rick Martinez and Danny Martinez.

Honorary: Jerry Lugo, Gustavo Lugo, Brayan Chaquito, Julian Duran, Matthew Rodriguez and LeeAnne Montalvo.
