Nora Vigil

On November 13, 2022, Nora Vigil of San Pedro, peacefully passed into God’s graces at her home surrounded by family and loved ones.  Nora joyfully celebrated 100 years of life on September 9, 2022.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Sam P. Vigil; son Ronnie Vigil; brothers Henry and Max Serrano; sisters Eufelia Chacon, Angelica Ortiz, Amalia DeVargas, Arcenia Cisneros, and Vitalia Gallegos; parents Narciso and Victoriana Serrano.

Nora is survived by her children Mannie (Cathy) Vigil, Pam Vigil, and JoAnn Vigil; siblings Marina Sandoval and Lorenzo (Josie) Serrano, Sr.; grandchildren Steven (Kathleen) Vigil, Lou Ann Branch, Jennifer (Mike) Strati, April Barela, Evangeline Michalski, Liz Branch, Jessica (Carlos) Rodriguez, Carmelita Vigil, Marcos Vigil, and Mario (Kara) Vigil; twenty-four great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Jose (Esther) Vigil and Johnny King; sisters-in-law Isabel Torres, Rose Martinez, Alice Gallegos, and Olympia Vigil; and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and prayed the rosary daily.  She kept an immaculate house and was an incredible cook.  No one left her house hungry!  Nora’s love of baseball, football, and basketball stemmed from her days of playing baseball in her younger years.

Nora’s priority has always been her family.  Her love of children transcended through her ability to raise four amazing children and care for numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Additionally, she loved Bianca Martinez, Nathan and Amber Jimmerson as her own.

The family of Nora Vigil is indebted to those who dedicated their time to lovingly care for her during the final years of her life, especially Eloida Martinez (nurse), Oceana Martinez, Martiza Vigil, Peggy Fernandez and AmberCare staff.

Public Visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 5:30 pm in the Sangre De Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.  A Rosary will follow at 6:00 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, N.M.  Live stream of the funeral mass will be available via SantaCruz Espanola FaceBook page.  Burial will take place immediately following the mass at the Holy Cross Cemetery in El Llano, NM.

Serving as pallbearers are Marcos Vigil, Mario Vigil, Victor DeVargas, Patrick Barela, Xavier Romero and Zach Lopez.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are her great grandchildren.
