Nelson S Martinez June 20, 2025 

Nelson Sabino Martinez, a resident of Truchas, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 20, 2025, a few hours after his 96th birthday. Nelson was born on June 19, 1929, in Truchas, New Mexico, to Querino and Ermelinda Martinez. 

Nelson was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Corina Martinez; parents Querino and Ermelinda Martinez; son’s Nelson Jr, Robert and David Martinez; grandchildren Glen Sandoval, David and Fernando Romero, Sandra Quintana, Miles, Ernesto and Ariana Martinez; great-grandson Isaiah Apodaca; great-granddaughter Cassandra Quintana; daughter-in-law Diana Martinez and son-in-law Ernie Quintana. 

Nelson is survived by daughter’s Rose Quintana (Ramon), Linda Sandoval (Leo), Debra Romero (Ricky); son’s Norris Martinez (Nancy), Anthony Martinez (Debbie) and Ernie Martinez; 29 grandchildren; 43 great- grandchildren and numerous great- great grandchildren; siblings Rafelita Medina, Mario and Jimmy Martinez, Patsy Lopez, Anival Armijo; many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Nelson was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a proud Veteran who served in the Army. He was a member of local union 495 and worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory as a welder for many years. Nelson was a hard-working man, always kept himself busy working on one project or another. He loved farming, woodworking, welding, and spending time in his shop. He built a beautiful chapel, which holds pictures and memories of family and friends that passed away. He loved to dance, travel and go out to eat with friends and family. He played many roles in the Truchas community. 

The family would like to thank CNS and Amber Care‘s staff and health professionals who were involved in Nelson‘s care. A special thank you to father John and father Sebastian for your weekly visits, prayers and spiritual comfort. Thank you to all the family and friends for their phone calls, visitation and loving compassion. 

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, a Viewing will take place at 9:30 am, Rosary at 10:00 am, with Mass to follow at 11:00 am at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Truchas, NM.  Burial will be at the San Miguel Cemetery in Truchas, NM.

Serving as Pallbearers are Joseph Quintana, Mark, Jesse and David Martinez, Videlio Sandoval and Brandon Romero.
