Our beloved husband, father, grandfather Modesto Orlando “Wolf” Montoya, age 77 of Santa Cruz went home to be with our Lord peacefully on December 17th, 2022.
Orlando was born in Santa Fe, NM on July 19,1945. He was a lifetime sign painter and fell in love with the art from a young age. His work can be seen all around New Mexico and has been shown in numerous movies. He was devoted Los Angeles Ram’s fan and was always representing his team.
Orlando was a family man and loved spending his time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. He took pride in them all and they brought him so much joy and life. He loved to teach them about faith and how to pray.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother Ruperta “Jupo” Mares, parents Ismael “Herman” & Regina Valdez, brother Joe Sandoval, grandson Patrick “PJ” Medina, nephews Martin Montoya and Alex Baca.
Orlando is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years Judy Montoya, his daughters Jacqueline Montoya, Yolanda (Patrick) Medina, Vangie Montoya, Stella (James) Montoya and son Orlando “Orlie” Montoya, his sisters Stella “Red” Baca, Eileen (Joe) Frank and brothers George and Rudy Mares. Grandchildren; Regina, Marcos, Jose, Leticia, Amber, Anjelica, Diana, Savanah, Anisha, Katelynn, Lucas, and Samuel. Great grandchildren; Matthew, Jeremiah, Anjelyssa, Andrew, Adryanna, Rilah Marie, Nathanial, Aalijiah, Heavenlee, Antonio, Aubrey, Andrea, Avelia, Anita, Kaden, Stylez, Aldeanna, Jade, and Kaylani. Great-great grandchild; Amelia. Lifetime friends Sennie & Edward Quintana, as well as many other relatives, cousins, and family friends.
Pallbearers are James Montoya, Jose Juarez, Matthew Vigil, Jeremiah Vigil, Andrew Povijua and Michael Trujillo. Honorary Pallbearers are Patrick Medina and Marcos Montoya.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday December 28, 2022, at 7:00 pm with public visitation to begin at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Mass will be held on December 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Burial to follow at Santa Cruz Cemetery.
