Modesta Ruiz

Modesta Ruiz 91, a resident of Alcalde, passed away Thursday April 11, 2019 at her home of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vicente Viarrial. Husband, Alfonso Ruiz. Sister Mary Nowinski. Brothers; Felix Martinez, Ceasario, Amarante and Demetrio Viarrial. Parents; Rosendo Villareal and Celestina Martinez. Daughters; Jeannette Quintana and Diane Rosenblum. Modesta was a retiree of Presbyterian Health Services. She was a member of the Pink Ladies at Espanola Hospital. She also served ST. Vincent de Paul for many years. She also worked for Mattel Industries in Los Angeles until returning to New Mexico. She is survived by her son; Vicente Viarrial of Alcalde. Daughters; Elizabeth and husband Mickey Jimenez of South Gate, California and Shirley Salazar and husband Sammy of La Mesilla. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Rosary will be recited on  Friday April 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11:00, both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan. Burial will be at the Alcalde Cemetery. The family of Modesta Ruiz has entrusted the care of their beloved Modesta to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.  505-747-7477
