MICHAEL ALLEN SMITH, 72, a resident of El Rancho, passed into the arms of our lord surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 following a short illness. Michael was born in Ponca City, OK to Thomas Earl and Cecile Marie Smith on March 14, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter Jade Smith; brothers, Kenneth and David Smith; brother-in-law, Danny Kirk; uncle, Tate Hall; father and mother –in-law, Tony J. and Agnes Montoya; sister-in-law, Patricia Ulibarri; and nephew, Adam Montoya of El Rancho. Michael was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Germany during the Berlin Wall build-up. He will be remembered as a kind, honest, hard-working, patriotic, quiet man and a true friend to many. Above all he adored his wife, all his nephews and nieces and the entire family. Also he made awesome chocolate chip cookies! His hobbies included golfing, fishing, tending his vineyard, wine making and traveling to the Pacific Northwest or the Texas Gulf coast to crab and fish. He will be dearly missed by those he left behind. Michael is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 47 years, Kristine; sons, River and wife Sara and granddaughter, Zenith Smith and Søren Atticus due on March 14, 2017 of El Rancho and Gary Smith of Ponca City; sister, Karen and husband Kent Sisney of Ponca City; Goddaughter, Ashley Williams; brothers-in-law, Tony Montoya and wife Vickie, Robert Montoya and wife Brenda; sister-in-law, Barbara and husband Chris Williams, Carla Jacquez, Roberta Martinez all of El Rancho; Kathleen and husband Sean Burns of San Antonio, TX; brothers-in-law, Larry Ulibarri and wife Christie, Al Martinez and Benito Jacquez; close family friend Kevin Burns, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members who have fond memories of their uncle. The family extends their gratitude to Dr. William Leeson, Dr. Hillary Norton, Dr. Nathan Ivanik, the AMS staff and the dedicated compassionate doctors and staff of Christus St. Vincent who were so very kind in their care for him. Recitation of the rosary will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the San Ildefonso Mission Church in El Rancho, with Memorial Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
