Michael “Mikie” Eli Esquibel, 29, a resident of Cuarteles passed away after a short illness on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Michael was such a loving uncle he loved his niece & nephews. He had a special bond with his cat “T” but loved ALL animals. Michael always enjoyed the lakes. He did boating & fishing. Michael enjoyed listening to his music, and being with all his friends. He was a happy go lucky individual who was full of life. He will be dearly missed by those who knew & loved him. Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Max T. Esquibel; maternal grandfather, Hector Martinez; aunt, Lulu Jaramillo; cousins: Chris and John Sherwood. Michael is survived by his parents: Max and Anita Esquibel of Cuarteles; brothers: Danny Esquibel and companion Erica Serna of Alcalde; Alejandro “Hondo” Esquibel of Española; Godson, Isaiah Esquibel of Alcalde; nephews & niece: Jayden Esquibel of Alcalde and Nicholas Esquibel of Española; maternal grandmother, Dolores Martinez of Chimayo, NM; paternal grandmother, Louise Esquibel of Cuarteles; special friend, Helen Cata of Ohkay Owingeh; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Jamie Vigil, Josh Martinez, Eric Garcia, Jose Aguilar, Derrick Martinez and Robert Garcia.
