Matthew Thomas Vigil, 43, a resident of Espanola, NM, passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2022.
Matthew was born to Alvin and Angela Vigil on March 30, 1979. He was raised here in the Espanola Valley, graduated from Espanola Valley High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the College of Santa Fe in 2003. Matthew had a lengthy career at Los Alamos National Laboratory and most recently Income Support Division in Espanola, NM.
He had a passion for his religion and his family, especially his children.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Angela Vigil, his maternal grandparents Ramon and Helen Salazar and paternal grandparents Frank and Ramona Vigil, and many other relatives.
He is survived by his beautiful children, step-daughter Bryanna, daughter Mary and son JohnPaul of Albuquerque, mother of his children Kristy Schlegel of Albuquerque, brothers Eric Vigil (Tammy) and Vincent Vigil (Maureen) of Espanola, nephews Eric Vigil Jr, Isaiah Vigil, Noah Vigil and niece, Leah Vigil all of Espanola, cousin whom he thought of as a sister, Alina Vigil also of Espanola and many other relatives and friends.
A Rosary will be on Monday, November 21, 2022, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. Burial following at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Espanola, NM.
Due to the concern in the increases of Covid, there will not be a reception after the services.
