Matthew Sanchez

Matthew James Sanchez, age 24, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022. Matthew James, as he was affectionately called, loved spending time with his family. Matt loved going to school and was currently attending NNMCC where he was majoring in Environmental Science and was due to graduate with the class of 2023. Matt loved spending time with his beloved “Mama” and his bros. Matt loved spending time with his cousins, fishing, hunting & just overall hanging out with his family. Matt was always joking around and forever making light of any situation no matter what.

Matt jokingly called himself “Ka-Boi” Matt. That meant that he wasn’t a full-on cowboy but he was “Ka-Boi” Matt. Matt’s ultimate past times were tending to the ranch at home, chilling in the mountains & fishing. Matt cherished the fact that he was an ever-loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend to so many.

Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Nelson J. Sanchez, his paternal grandfather, Richard J. Sanchez, paternal uncle, Mark A. Sanchez, maternal great-grandfather, Remigio Sanchez, maternal great uncle, Mike Sanchez & paternal great-grandparents, Aniceto & Viola Martinez. Matthew is also preceded in death by his great-Tio Leandro, great-Tia Tina Vigil, great-Tio Tom Saiz, and great aunts Carol & Yvette Martinez.

Matthew is survived by his “Mama” Pamela, brothers Aaron, Bryan & Victor Sanchez. Matthew is survived by his beloved niece, Essence and his nephew, AJ aka BamBam aka "skeet" as Matt affectionately named him himself. Matthew is also survived by his maternal grandparents Flo & Elaine Archuleta, paternal grandmother, Rommie Sanchez & maternal great-grandmother Isabel Sanchez. Matthew is survived by his godparents, Jason & Rhonda Sanchez & godbrother Cruz Sanchez. Matthew is survived by his aunt Karen Sanchez & uncle Eric Wiese. Matthew is also survived by his special little cousins, Ayannah (Yannah) Sanchez, Leia, Baylee & Cameron Tafoya. Matthew is also survived by other numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Matthew was very, very, loved and will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 22, 2022 at 10:00 am at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM in the Sangre De Christo Chapel. Burial to follow at Velarde Cemetery.
