With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved Matilda Quintana of Sombrillo, New Mexico, passed peacefully on September 3, 2026 at the age of 94. She left this world to be reunited with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by the love of those who cherished her.
Matilda, lovingly known as Mattie, was a hardworking woman whose generous spirit touched everyone around her. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand or lift others up in prayer, always keeping her family and friends close to her heart. A devout Christian, she faithfully attended prayer meetings and services at Victory Faith, where she found joy in singing hymns and praising the Lord. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and her kindness and devotion will be remembered by all who knew her.
Mattie was an incredible cook and baker, known for her biscochitos, empanaditas, and homemade tortillas. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend whose kindness touched everyone around her. Nothing brought her more joy than having her home filled with family, especially the laughter and presence of babies and children.
Those moments were when she was truly happiest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benito and Josefita Trujillo; her husband, Cenobio Quintana; and her siblings Manuelita and husband Anastacio Martinez, Georgia and husband Tony Sanchez, Miquelita Vigil, and Cayetano (Ernest) and wife Ida Trujillo.
She was also preceded in death by her in-laws: Tony E. and Minnie Quintana; Tillie and Ross Trujillo; Mary and Charles Haygood; Michael and Celida Quintana; Flora and Johnnie R. Salazar; and Celine and Lloyd Luper.
She is survived by daughters, Josephine and husband David Mora of Bernalillo, Amy Martinez of Los Lunas, Darlene and husband Gerald Arrellano of Dixon, Laura and husband Michael Gonzales of San Diego, CA, and Louise and husband Giovanni Romero of Lyden. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
