Obituary

Matias Santiago Chacon, age 44, passed away on February 17, 2026, after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 4, 1981, in Española, New Mexico, to his loving parents, Candie Chacon and Eusebio Chacon.

Matias was a beloved son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. He shared a special bond with his family and friends and will be remembered for his strong presence, his loyalty, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him. His relationships were deeply meaningful, and he cherished every moment spent with the people he loved.

He was preceded in death my many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Close cousins Tony Abeyta, Sammy Vigil, Lori Vigil, Ronald Martinez, Uncle Tony Chacon and Cousin Eric Chacon.

He is survived by his father, Eusebio Chacon of El Rito; his mother, Candie Chacon of La Puebla; his brothers, Joseph Chacon (Karla) and Bobby Chacon (Pamela); and Armando Jaramillo (Sharon), who was like a brother to him.

He also leaves behind his special nephew and nieces, Joseph “Jojo” Chacon (Latisha), Jenessa, Angel, and Heaven; his goddaughter, Bobbie Chacon; his godson, Jordan Martinez; and his great-niece and great-nephew, Alijah and Addison Chacon.

Matias will be deeply missed by his close friends, Elmo, Jordan, and especially his little best friend, Michael Johnson. He also leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family members, including Brenda Jaramillo; Jermaine and Josh Martinez; Nina Bernie Vigil and family; Tia Steff and family; Tio Fedelino and family; Tia Erma Chacon and family; Tio Chris Chacon and family; Tia Tila Chacon and family, Tia Lilly Martinez, Tia Ofelia Martinez, Tia Teresa Martinez, Tio Estevan Martinez, Tio Edward Maestas; as well as many other extended relatives.

Matias was one of the proud founders of the local car club, “Los Guys CC,” and had a deep passion for his lowrider cars. He loved hunting with his brothers and spending time outdoors with his nephew and nieces. Fishing was another passion of his, and he was always ready to invite anyone willing to join him. Matias was a skilled carpenter and dedicated much of his life to his craft. Those who knew him best will always remember his sense of humor—he could make anyone laugh and never missed a chance to crack a good joke.

Pallbearers will be:50 (Elmo), Josh Martinez, Joseph Chacon, Bobby Chacon, Jojo Chacon, Jordan Garcia, Mando Jaramillo, and Charles Vigil.

Services are pending and will be announced as soon as they become available.


Honorary pallbearers are:Jenessa, Angel, Heaven, Bobbie, Alijah and Addison Chacon, Latisha Chacon, Michael Johnson, Jordan Martinez, Jermaine Martinez, and Brenda Jaramillo.

Matias will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who knew him.
