Mary Rose Lucero “Rose” – Age 74 April 11, 1936 - May 28, 2010 Resident of Espanola After a lengthy illness, Mary Rose passed away peacefully at Lovelace Medical Center with her loving family beside her. Rose was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico and was the youngest of 11 children. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Denette Marie Gallegos; mother, Tranquilina Polaco; and all of her siblings as Mary Rose was the last survivor. Rose will be remembered by her beloved children: Debra Gonzales and husband Tom of Rio Rancho, Verne Lucero, Jr. and companion Kimberly Lawrence of La Cienega, Probate Judge Angela Gallegos and husband Dennis of La Mesilla, Eric Lucero of Espanola, Founder and Franchisee of Home Run Pizza, Zacary Lucero of Rio Rancho, Lenora Jeannie Lucero Crow and husband William of Edgewood; father of all her children, Verne Lucero, Sr. of Rio Rancho; treasured grandchildren: Chastity Gonzales and husband Ed, Roxanne Lucero, Denielle Gallegos, Victoria Martinez and husband Isaac all of Albuquerque, James Abeyta, II and companion Wendy Christian, Thomas Gonzales all of Rio Rancho, Greg Lucero and wife Bernadette, Ashley, Amanda and Gavin Lawrence all of Santa Fe, Dennis Gallegos, Jr. and Fiancee Tammie Medina of Chimayo, Tabitha, Tiffany and Lucas Lucero of Dallas, Texas, Eryca Perry of Hubbard, Texas, Christy Chavez and husband Joe, Brianna Rose Crow of Edgewood, and her 11 darling great grandchildren, special longtime friend, Dora Martinez of Pojoaque Pueblo along with many other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. Rose had the most beautiful emerald green eyes with her exceptional looks and natural poise and loved singing especially boleros as she had a lovely voice. She loved to read and treasured family gatherings where everyone would gather around Rose as she was an extraordinary storyteller. She enjoyed listening to Norteno music, watching her novellas, gardening her flowers, being in the mountains near a stream, laughing, being with her family, having fun with friends and as a young homemaker and mother, teaching elementary school girls arts and crafts as a Girl Scout Leader. She opened her home to anyone in need and loved to cook for an army, especially her homemade bread and her famous New Mexican dishes. Rose taught her children and grandchildren the art of cooking and life survival skills. Rose touched the lives of many people with her beautiful smile and generosity and was like a mother to many, and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Rose was an amazingly courageous and strongwilled woman who suffered all her life from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident as a young woman. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, June 11, 2010, at 11:00 am at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. The family of Mary Rose Lucero has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
