Mary M. Age - 89 Nambe Romero

Mary “Nanny” M. Romero, 89, a lifelong resident of Nambe passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Mary loved music and dancing. When Arturo and Mary got on the dance floor the crowds would stop to watch them. She loved the polka. She enjoyed baking biscochitos for her family & friends. Mary and her husband loved Palm Springs, California where they spent significant periods of time with close friend and long time employer, Ethel M. Huffman, whom she also deeply loved. Mary participated in the National Youth Administration during the Great Depression and was recognized for her participation in the New Deal Program in 2008. She was a great supporter of the Pojoaque Valley Volunteer Fire Department where her husband served as a founding member and volunteer for over 30 years. She would stay awake, sometimes for hours burning a candle awaiting the safe return of her beloved Arturo. She was also active in the Fire Department Fund Raisers and its Annual Firemen’s Ball. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin and Clorinda Ortiz; sisters: Dolores O. Gonzales and Gloria O. Lujan; brother, Antonio M. Ortiz. She is survived by her husband Arturo A. Romero of Nambe; daughters: Sheila Vigil and husband Raymond of Budaghers, NM; Cleo Romero and companion Lowell Gilbert of Nambe, NM; grandchildren: Jamie Jordan and husband Tom, Kamie Harmer, Ray Vigil and wife Jana, Jody V. Heinold and fiancé Royce Namoca, Chris Romero and wife Amy; great-grandchildren: Anna and Katy Jordan, Josh Johnson, Rei-Leigh and Rebecca Harmer, Jesse and Alexandria Vigil, Kendall and Jaxson Heinold; brother, Toby Ortiz and wife Sinfie; sisters-in-law: Flossie Ortiz, Frances Romero and Teresita Sandoval; brother-in-law, Joe Lujan. She is also survived by many other relatives & friends. Special Thanks to Dolores Romero, Walter Frederick, Maria Hutton, Dr. Michael Palistine, Ophelia Romero and Fr. Flavio Santillanes. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Nambe with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Nambe.
