Santa Fe

Mary Elizabeth Richerson; Born July 2, 1932.  Departed this life, January 8, 2024.

Mary (Betty} passed peacefully on January 8, 2024, with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren at her side.   She passed like she lived her life, on her own terms.

Mary was born in Hasting-on-the-Hudson, New York to Partick and Grace Moore.  She was the youngest of seven (7) children.  Her father passed away when she was fifteen (15) and that changed the direction of her life.  Betty and her mother moved to Los Alamos in 1946 to be close to her sister and family.   She met her husband Nathaniel (Bud) Richerson and married in 1948.  They were married for 52 years until the time of his death.  They lived in Los Alamos until 1961, when they found a piece of heaven in El Rancho, where they raised their three children  Deborah Peña (Tony), Kelly Richerson (Mary) and Brian Richerson, who predeceased her in 1978.

She is survived by six grandchildren, Robert Peña (Johanna), Daniel Peña, Matthew Peña, Sarah Herrera (Chris), Brian Richerson (Nicole), and Marylyn Richerson, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great children and many nieces and nephews.

Betty loved her family, home, gardens and walking, but especially loved her dogs.  She is survived by Jack who loved her unconditionally.

We would like to thank Danielle Wolf, Julie Banaszek, and Poem Swentzell, Liz Ortega and Dr. Lucero from Los Alamos Visiting Nurses.   The care and love given to us will never be forgotten.

Funeral services are scheduled at San Antonio Catholic Church in El Rancho, NM, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, as follows, Rosary will be at 9:00 am with the Mass at 10:00 am.

The family of Mary Richerson has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the beautiful Espanola Valley.   www.devargasfuneral.com   505-747-7477
