Mary Montoya

Mary V. Montoya, 99, resident of Santa Cruz NM, was called to be with our Lord on February 15,  2022. Mary was born on July 27, 1922 to Manuel and Carmelita  Vigil. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Carmelita, her loving husband Patricio (Pat), brothers Sam, Manuel (Junior), Emilio, Tony, and her sister Luisita King.

Mary is survived by her daughter Louella (Jenaro), sons Patrick (Juanita), David (Anita), brother Jose Vigil (Ester), and sisters Isabel Torres (Elmer), Alice Gallegos (Robert), and Rose Martinez (Eppie), grandchildren Michael(Kim) of Velarde, Victoria (Keegan)of Santa Cruz, Marisa of Kansas, Fabian Valdez (Feliz) of Chimayo, Emilio Valdez of Espanola, great grandchildren Darren and Ashlee of Albuquerque, Allison of Santa Cruz, Blayke of Kansas and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Mary was a devout and faithful Catholic and long time member of La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada and La Sociedad de Nuestra Senora del Carmen (Las Carmelitas de Santa Cruz) and a member of Sagrada Familia de Santa Cruz. Mary loved and had a passion for the apple orchard and farming business that she and her late beloved husband Pat created and worked side by side over the years. They travelled to farmers markets all over northern New Mexico and enjoyed the many new and lifelong friendships created along the way.

The Montoya family of Mary extends their most sincere expression of gratitude to Gloria Loya and Connie Garcia for their friendship and care of our mother and to the entire staff at Ambercare Hospice for their excellent and professional service.

A rosary will be recited on March 8, 2022 at 1:30pm at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada with a mass of Christian burial to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in El Llano.

The Montoya family has entrusted care of their loved one to De Vargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
