Mary G. Martinez, 92, was born in Santa Fe, NM on December 1, 1930, and went to be with her heavenly Father on September 27, 2023. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Martinez, in 1956 and lived in El Rancho, NM. Mary was a loving caring person who was a friend to everyone she met. She retired with 41 years of service from the Los Alamos National Laboratory where she worked in the mailroom. One of her specific assignments was to handle all of the Director’s mail. She made many lifelong friends in her work career and was respected for her dedication to her job and helping her co-workers. She was a very humble special person who lived a very full life. When her father died at the age of 52 she was only 16 years old and had just started working at the Lab. She was the sole bread winner in the family and she held the family together and took care of her mom, her brothers and her sisters. She was very independent and had a keen mind. Up to about 4 months ago, she lived by herself and managed all her affairs, occasionally driving to Santa Fe to enjoy a meal at her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster. She was loved by all and will be terribly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Abel Gonzales and Sarita Gonzales Romero, husband Jimmy Martinez, child Angel, who died at birth, brothers Abel, Ruben, Jose Aniceto; sisters Martha, Flora, and Teodorita.
She is survived by her Daughter Patti Jo Alejandro (Alfred), son Leo E. Gonzales (Linda), 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Frank, Bobby and Leo and 4 great grandchildren, Reyes, Tea, Avery and Ilyana, her sister Corine G. Baros, and many very special nieces and nephews who were just like daughters and sons to her. She had two very special neighbors, Anthony and Vickie Montoya, who would check up on her frequently and were a big help to her. Anthony Serna was another special neighbor who also checked up on her.
A rosary will take place at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe del Valle de Pojoaque at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
