Martha Viola Jones, age 72, a resident of Espanola, NM, passed away on May 19, 2024.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Bernadita Jones; grandparents Toribio and Ramona Olivas and Mary and Melvin Jones; aunts Lugardita Maestas and Carmen Silva; and uncle Juan Olivas.
Martha is survived by her sister Mary Pauline Martinez of Espanola; nephew Robert Martinez (Annabelle) of Espanola; niece Melissa Martinez of Espanola; aunts Precilla Dominguez and Dora Olivas both from El Llano; great-niece Brandy Garcia; great-nephews Rob Martinez, Andrew Saiz Martinez, Lorenzo Martinez and Draven Martinez; raised as a sister Cathy Maestas; and many other cousins and relatives.
Martha attended school at Santa Cruz and graduated in 1970, then went to college in El Rito and studied accounting and business. She worked at Hernandez Elementary for a year, then went to work for the State Game and Fish for 23 years until her retirement which was due to her illness. Martha suffered for many years. At the end , she was completely paralyzed. Martha and mom enjoyed weekends going to Santa Fe. She also loved all her nieces and nephews. She will be missed.Services are scheduled as follows with a rosary to be recited at 11:00 am at the Iglesia de Santa Cruz de La Canada in Santa Cruz with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2024. Internment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers are Robert Martinez, Rob Martinez, Lorenzo Martinez, Danny Quintana and Joe Aguino. Honorary Pallbearer Andrew Saiz Martinez.
