Marie J. - Age 57 - Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Abeyta

Marie J. Abeyta – Age 57 a resident of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the University of Colorado Hospital. Marie was born on September 28, 1953 to Jose R. and Natividad “Nettie” Cata in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. Marie attended the Española Schools graduating from Española High School. She also attended the University of New Mexico where she received her degree in Elementary and Bilingual education. Marie was an educator for the Ohkay Owinegh Community School, where she was also the gifted and talented coordinator. Her passion in life was teaching and working with kids. She also enjoyed taking her mother to the casino and watching her grandchildren participating in sports activities as well as participating in traditional activities in the Ohkay Owingeh community. She was always thinking of and helping anyone in need. Marie was preceded in death by her father, Jose R. Cata and Brother-in-law, Gabriel Cata. Marie J. Abeyta is survived by her mother, Natividad “Nettie” Cata of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; husband, Michael Abeyta of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; sister, Mary M. Cata of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; son, Leon J. Abeyta and girlfriend Ambrosha Baca; daughter, Rachael Martinez and husband Lindbert of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Family Home in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Septmeber 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. Burial will follow at the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Brandon Cata, Marcelino Calvert, Darren Calvert, Byron Abeyta, Anthony”RJ” Garcia, Jr. Christopher Dino Gipson, Joseph A. Martinez, Jr., Delton Martinez, Wayne Edmonds, Vernon Martinez. The family of Marie J.
