Marie Velarde

Marie Danielle Velarde , a lifelong resident of Velarde, was called to be home on Saturday, March 20, 2021.  She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend.  Danielle was a very caring young lady who enjoyed life to the fullest and the most important thing in her life was her family.  Her happiest moments were spending time not just with her immediate family, but her extended family as well.  Danielle’s favorite summer past time was spending time at the family cabin in the Pinoreal with her late grandpa Chris, her dad, brother, and all of her cousins.  She loved traveling with her mom to visit her Harper family in Ohio and Florida.  During the winter months she loved to go snowboarding with her brother and cousins.  Everyone who knew Danielle, knew that she could be as stubborn as they come, and you never had to guess where you stood with her. That being said, she was a person who loved deeply and the love she had for her family and close friends was a very deep love.  Danielle had an infectious smile and was a talented cook who made the best sweet treats.

Danielle was a 2015 graduate of NNMCC with a degree in radiology.  For the last 5+ years she worked as a radiation technician at XRay Associates in Santa Fe.  She was always very caring with her patients.

Danielle was born on March 13, 1990 to Danny and Jill Velarde. She was preceded in death by her Auntie Stephanie, Grandma Delfina, Grandma Beryl Harper, and Grandpa Chris.  She is survived by her father and go-to-guy, Danny; her mother, Jill (Richard); her brother, Brian; grandfather, Marvin; first cousins, Kim (Isaac), Steph, Jason and Brandon McClelland, Kami and Gabe Harper and many aunts and uncles.  Danielle held a very special place in each of our hearts and our lives will forever be changed without her.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with a memorial mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Velarde. Serving the family as pallbearers are, Brian Velarde, Isaac Baca, Arthur Zach Trujillo, Atanacio Roybal, Harold Salazar and Joe Adams. Honorary pallbearers are Stephanie Oellien, Kimberly Baca, Kyle Sager, Stephanie Vigil and Venessa Smith. The family of Marie Danielle Velarde has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
