MARIA MARGARITA (MARGIE) MONTAÑO was born August 27, 1927 in Rio Arriba County she was 86. A resident of Los Alamos passed away Friday, January 24, 2014. She was preceded in death by her son, Lonny Montaño; husband, Raphael Alonzo Montaño who she was very happily married to for 64 years, mother, Clarita Ulibarri; father, Francisco Archuleta; brothers, Joe, Frank, and Floyd Archuleta and sister, Ollie Gaylord. Mrs. Montaño was the owner of Taña's Kitchen in Española and Los Alamos. She was well known for her Spanish style of cooking especially her sopapillas. Everyone loved her food because she made everything from scratch. She loved to go to the casinos and enjoyed the one armed bandits. She took pride in her numerous fruit trees, lilac bushes, and rose bushes too. If she could fine a bare spot to plant something, she would. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always wished one day we could be a family that got along if even for just one day. Mrs. Montaño has one surviving sister, Josephine Smith of Mission Viejo, California. She will be missed by her surviving children, Joe Trujillo, Dolores La Flamme, Frances Wood, and Clara Montaño-Smith; grandchildren, Joey Trujillo, Cindy Trujillo, Taña Lee, Tuhy Mills, Damian Montaño, Cisco Wood, Lonny Wood and Anthony Wood; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Elfago, and Raphael Lovato, Savannah, and Elisabeth Lee, Ireland, Tobin, Luca Bella, Zoe and Ethan Montaño. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday February 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Maria Margarita (Margie) Montaño has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
